Burbank Housing Corporation has been developing affordable housing opportunities for low-income households for over 18 years. So far, with the help of our valued partners in the community, we have developed 320 rental units, four after-school and activity centers for our kids and families, two child care centers and three transitional housing facilities. All of our projects share the same goal, to provide individuals and families with decent, safe affordable housing and with services that will enhance the quality of their lives and the community.
Our latest endeavor is an 11-unit supportive housing development for homeless US Veterans, with a particular focus on homeless female veterans. Purchasing and rehabilitating the 11 bungalow-style one-bedrooms has been financially challenging but, ultimately, we were able to gather the necessary funds. We are weeks away from completing construction. Our goal is to move these homeless vets into their new homes before the Holidays.
The fact is that these future residents are coming in off the streets or shelters. BHC realized that these units would need to be furnished and equipped with the basic things needed to start a new life in permanent housing. We have launched an all-out campaign to garner community support in this effort and have had churches, civic groups and individuals generously donate money and new apartment equipment. BHC’s Adopt a Vet’s Home Program was developed to formally engage the community to help us gather the necessary funds and items to fully furnish these homes for our veterans.
Special thanks to the following organizations for adopting a unit:
Foothill Civitan Club
First Christian Church of Burbank and the Burbank Community Band
The Welker Family
There are 8 units left to be adopted. If you have any questions or would like to sign up to adopt a unit, please contact our office: 818-559-2336
