If you are unsure if you are currently on the waiting list, please contact our office.
I recently applied during a waiting list opening and later received a letter that says I’m on the BHC Waiting List. Are there any other steps I should take?
No. Your household’s position on the waiting list is secure for the time-being. If our office requires any further information, we will mail all official correspondence to the mailing address you provided. You may contact our office to learn your position on the waiting list.
If I’ve been recently added to the BHC Waiting List, does that mean there will be an apartment available soon for my household?
Your wait for an apartment may take months or years. Please do not consider your waiting list status as an immediate source of housing. The average household waits 2-6 years to be placed in a unit.
Do I need to reapply every year for the waiting list?
No, your household does NOT have to reapply every year for the waiting list; however there are steps you must take in order to secure your place on the list every year.
Every year, BHC conducts a waiting list audit near the end of the calendar year. BHC mails a confirmation letter to every applicant on the waiting list. The confirmation letter requires applicants to submit the bottom slip of the letter to our office by a deadline. Failure to respond by the deadline indicates a disinterest in BHC’s Affordable Housing Program and will result in removal from the waiting list. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact BHC if you do not receive your confirmation letter.
How will I know when an apartment is ready for me?
When your name comes up as the next potential applicant for an apartment, you will receive a call and postcard from our property management office. If you are interested, you must respond to our property management staff as soon as possible to continue the rental application process. You will then be shown the available apartment and given a rental application. There is no need to verify any information or send any documentation until that time.
What does the rental application process entail?
A credit and criminal background will be performed at the time of the rental application for all adults in the household. Your credit history must be clear of evictions and bankruptcies for at least two years. The income you provided on your waiting list application will be verified through your bank statements, pay stubs, tax documents, etc. We do require a security deposit (generally one months rent). Note: You MAY be eligible for a payment plan.
What should I do if my household information changes?
If you have any changes to your mailing address, income, or household members, please notify BHC. It is very important that you keep your waiting list application current. If you would like to update your waiting list application, please contact our office to request a waiting list modification form. Failure to update your application could result in removal from the waiting list.
I believe I applied for the BHC Waiting List. Can you check my waiting list status using my Application ID or Pin?
No. Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) does NOT provide Application IDs or Pins to households on our waiting list. You most likely applied for the Section 8 Waiting List through Burbank Housing Authority. Please contact the Burbank Housing Authority’s Section 8 department at (818) 238-5160.
